From the Principal's Pen

“Excellence is an art won by training and habituation.

We do not act rightly because we have virtue and

excellence, but we rather have those because we have

acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence,

then, is not an act but a habit.”

Greetings from Greenwood Middle School! My name is Kevin Mayes, and I have had the pleasure of serving as Principal for the past 2 years. I am a hometown educator being a product of Greenwood, Mississippi, and the Greenwood Public School District. I am a 1999 graduate of Greenwood High School. I received both my Bachelors and Masters in Business Administration from Millsaps College and Mississippi College, respectively. I began my career in education in the Canton Public School district as a 5th Grade English/Language Arts and a 4th Grade Math and Science teacher. I have also served as an Instructional Coach in the Leflore County School District. I am married to my wife of 10 years, Techandra, and have two children, Kaitlyn and Kourtland.

My philosophy towards education is, “All students are capable of learning, developing, and practicing the right habits that will propel them forward to a successful life.”

We will continue to be extra diligent in our work in ensuring that Greenwood Middle School students are prepared for both college and the global world that awaits them!!
